Ferenc Cakó, graphic artist, animated film director, painter. He graduated from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in 1973 as an applied graphic artist. During his college years he got the main awards for his animated films at National Amateur Film Festivals and later he was hired by Pannonia Film Studio and worked there as designer-producer between 1973 and 1991. He used puppet, clay, and paper-cut techniques in his early films. The first significant international success was at the Annecy Film Festival with “Ad Astra” in 1982. From that time on he has made his films from his own scripts. His films have won the grand prizes of nearly each significant film festival: Cannes (Best Short Film), Berlin (Golden Bear), San Francisco (Golden Gate Award), Annecy (Best Short Film), Oberhausen, Krackow, Espinho, Sanghai, Gava Uppsala, Kecskemet etc. in 1996 he invented a live performance of sand animation. Since the the audience have been able to watch on big screens his lively-bustling, film-like running, impressive on-the-stage sand animation stream inspired by music. He has gained significant success both home and abroad with his shows.He makes illustration for children several and youth books. His graphics and painting are shown at individual exhibitions in the major cities of Hungary and abroad. He is Merited Artist of Hungary.
